So here we are. Almost to the weekend of this little triathlon thing that I'm doing on Sunday. I'm feeling a little better about the swim portion since I got in the ocean yesterday with my wetsuit and swam around. I swam across a cove to a dock and back without much difficulty and no panic. I really have to try to not look down in the water but other than that, it was pretty good.
I can do it. It's only 30 or so minutes of swimming. I can flip on my back and back stroke if I need to. I can even grab a kayak and hold onto as long as I don't move forward. Once I get out of that water, it's going to be a piece of cake. Biking and running I can do. I just have to get out of the water. 35 minutes. That's it. I can tolerate anything for 35 minutes. Right?
I need some help with my packing list to make sure I don't forget anything. We are heading down tomorrow night to stay with my in-laws. We got a hotel in OOB for Sat, but the kennel was full so we don't have anywhere to keep the dog. Thankfully, the in-laws will watch him so we'll visit with them on Friday night.
Here's the list--shoot me a note if you think I've forgotten something. Please.
Swim
goggles (even though they give me some as part of my race packet)
swim cap
tri suit--top and bottom
ear plugs
wet suit
hair tie
pam cooking spray (to apply on legs before putting on wet suit)
towel
body glide? or is pam good enough?
Bike
bike shoes
bike
helmet
sunglasses
socks
water bottles
gu, gels, energy chews
pb sandwich to chow before getting on bike?
belt for bib
sunscreen? I don't burn easily and it's going to be pretty early...
Run
sneakers
visor
hydration belt (for me it's easier to drink out of the bottles than the cups at the water stations)
lip balm in belt
Garmin? am I going to bother messing with it while before I start running?
Finish
big ass smile!
What say you? Do I have everything? What's missing?

Good luck Michelle - I'm sure you will do great! I did my first OWS last weekend (just a 500yd swim) and it was much easier than I expected. The only thing I will do differently next time is get some tinted goggles, as it was really hard to see when I was swimming into the sun (which was buoy to buoy parallel to the beach in this one). It was an early race (7:30) so the sun was just low enough to make it wicked bright and between that and all the thrashing around, keeping yourself on track is a little rough. And prepare to suck up some salt H2O (I wasn't)! The wetsuit was a cinch, and I skipped the Pam and body glide and didn't have any problems getting out of it. I used a sleeveless one like you've got and thought it was perfect. Can't wait to hear about the race - you will rock it I'm sure!
Good luck this weekend, you'll do great!
I've never raced a race like that but it sounds like you've got your stuff together!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
You'll be great! Good luck and enjoy it!
I would skip the Pam all together and just use Body Glide. Use it all over your neck too. Wetsuits will rub there, especially in the ocean. I wouldn't bother with the PBJ before the bike. Gels and Gu should be plenty. Of course if you have been doing it in training don't change up your plan.
You're going to do great! Have fun!
