August Review

It's hard to believe that August is over already.  It seems like it just started and BAM! it's September already.  August was a great month for me--we did a lot of fun stuff as a family and I overcame a fear and finished a big race.

Miles Run--38.4 A little bit down from last month.  That magic number of 50 miles/month seems to elude me.  As I train for the Maine 1/2 Marathon later this month, I should be able to reach that number for September.

Bike minutes--420 minutes.  Same as last month.  I spent probably half of that time on the bike vs. the spin bike.  Biking is easily becoming my favorite part of the tri.  I love my bike!!

Weight Training--70 minutes

Tennis--1 hour.  I also got 75 minutes of playing field hockey in again this month.  Once again, sprinting and changeing direction quickly are very different for my legs and I was sore for 2 days...  I really should find an adult league to play in, it was so much fun!

Swim--6500 yds  Which also includes my first ocean swim!!  woo!

Races--I did two races this month:  Beach to Beacon 10k and the Rev3 Olympic Tri.  Both races were great for different reasons and I will likely sign up for both next year.  Once again, no professional finish photo for me at the REv3 Tri.  Seriously, I am always that person that never has any proof that I finished a race.  If I didn't have photos of my own, there would be no way to prove I was even there.  I swear I'm going to hire my own guy for the next race....

Current Annoyance--my heel is STILL bothering me after I run.  I bought a new pair of sneakers but that didn't seem to matter.  It was really bad after playing field hockey in my oh-so-flat turf shoes.  I could barely walk as I left the field.  I'm kinda at a loss as to what to do next.  I have some inserts that I used last time my heel hurt (like 3 years ago) so I'm going to try putting them into every pair of shoes that I can and see if that helps.  If not, I guess I'll cry uncle and go visit a doctor.  Once the Maine 1/2 Marathon is done (9/30) then I can just rest my feet and focus on spinning and swimming.

Current Book--I am having a hard time finding books to read now.  I feel like I've read everything that's worth reading, of course I know that isn't true, but I just can't find a decent book.   Right now I'm reading The Boy in the Suitcase which is just ok and I have The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks on deck to read next.  I always welcome book suggestions if you have any.

Current Excitement--The kids started school today so that is very exciting!  No more summer camps or nanny to pay for, a whole new year to look forward to!   Big Sissy has her first field hockey game tomorrow, Princess starts dance and field hockey next week and Manimal is still playing soccer and training in jiu-jitsu.  Throw some homework into the mix and good times will be had by all!
my babies.  who aren't babies.

We also took the family white water rafting this past weekend which was great fun!  I got a little bump to the face by the paddler in front of me when we went through a Class IV rapid.
No, I'm not talking about the old and wrinkly part, I'm talking about the mark on my cheek!

I'll have more photos for you of the actual rafting once they put them up on their web page.  My little one--7 year old--is in the front and the pictures are a hoot!

I hope your August was a fabulous one and here's to a successful September!

Great August! Thats funny you never have a finish photo and a bit of a bummer. Hope your heel starts behaving soon, injuries kind of really suck.

Overall a great month! Sorry your heel is bugging you. Hope you get that figured out. Yay for back to school!
Although I rarely ever buy race photos, not having any at all kind of blows. Weird.

i also cannot believe its september, what the heck?! i know this sounds ridiculous but i am slightly jealous of your less than 50 mile running months and look forward to winter for less running more swimming/biking. good luck at the half, wish i was going to be in town that day! we will meet up one of these days!!
